With the growing importance of information dissemination in the new millennium, the dimensions of the Right to Information (RTI) Law have expanded both at the national as well as the international level. This necessitated a comprehensive legislation to be evolved for providing a legal framework for the effective enforcement of the RTI Law. The subject of right to information is still in its nascent stage, it is therefore, important that its need and benefits are understood and appreciated by all stakeholders including state agencies and public authorities. The present book is a humble effort in this direction. The basic concept of RTI in all its facets and its necessity in a participatory democracy are explained in the book in a lucid and effective manner. The book surveys the relevant legislative trend and judicial response to the RTI Law including the contribution of Central Information Commission (CIC) to the development of this branch of legal knowledge. It also encapsulates the changes that have been introduced in the RTI legislation by the recently enacted Whistle-Blowers Protection Act, 2011 (Act 17 of 2014), which came into force on 12 May 2014. The book will provide a wealth of information to all those who are concerned with the prevention and control of corruption, illegal unlawful practices and arbitrariness in public domain and usher an era of transparency accountability and openness in the system of governance.
